Harrison Ford to Present Selig Award
Actor Harrison Ford, star of the upcoming baseball film “42″, will introduce the Bud Selig Executive Leadership Award at the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation’s 10th annual “In the Spirit of the Game” Sports and Entertainment Spectacular on January 12, 2013, in Los Angeles.
In the film, Ford plays the role of Branch Rickey, the Major League executive largely responsible for helping Jackie Robinson break baseball’s color barrier in 1947. Rickey also signed off on Red Barber’s decision to put Vin Scully — this year’s recipient of the Bud Selig Executive Leadership Award — in the Dodgers’ broadcast booth.
At January’s event, Ford will introduce Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig, who will then present the award to Scully.
Other honorees at this year’s event will include Red Sox chairman Tom Werner, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly and Orioles Hall of Famer Jim Palmer. More honorees are expected to be announced soon.
The annual event, attended by 1,500 guests, has honored an extensive list of Hall of Fame players, managers, scouts, coaches and executives.
