Jane Lynch has recalled how impressed she was when Harrison Ford insisted on changing the script when she appeared with him in The Fugitive.

The Glee star worked with the Indian Jones star on the now classic 1993 action film, and revealed how Harrison invited her to his trailer to redraft the scenes they shared.

Jane revealed: “I remember getting there to shoot one of the scenes in the lab with Harrison Ford, and Harrison was not happy with the script. I had just met him; he was probably the first big star I’d ever met. He grabbed me and he brought me into his trailer and we worked out how he wanted the scene to go, and we improvised together, and as we improvised he wrote it down, and took it to the director and said, ‘This is how we’re going do it’. And I thought, ‘Wow. That’s throwing your power around’.

She added: “It was a big deal to get cast in that film; I was a Chicago actor, it was shot in Chicago, and every actor in Chicago was vying for a part… and to have a speaking part with more than one scene! Actually, a couple of my scenes got cut, so it was a big deal. And I was paid 8,000 US dollars.”

Glad to see Jane is succeeding! Do you remember her role in The Fugitive?

Even with Ridley Scott back in the director’s chair and original writer Hampton Fancher on script duty, the idea of a Blade Runner sequel caused more trepidation than word that replicants were running loose for most fans. News that Green Lantern co-writer Michael Green is being brought aboard to work on a new draft may not help matters.

Of course, it’s far to early to judge a film when no one has seen so much as a piece of concept art, let alone a trailer, and things are still at a very early stage on this one. While Scott has talked about his vision for certain scenes, no plot details have leaked yet beyond the basic idea that it will be set a few years after the 1982 original and we don’t know whether Harrison Ford will be involved in any capacity.

In addition to work on Lantern, Green has also contributed to the unproduced Flash film and The Fantastic Four, and he most recently worked on Robopocalypse’s screenplay with Steven Spielberg – which should give us some confidence. He also did at least one draft of Moses project Gods And Kings, so let’s hope he can do justice to the original film.

1. David Lynch and David Cronenberg both turned down the job of directing “Jedi.” Instead, Lynch would go on to make his own sci-fi epic, 1984′s “Dune,” while Cronenberg would make the hit horror films “The Dead Zone” (1983) and “The Fly” (1986).

2. Welsh filmmaker Richard Marquand had previously directed the 1981 World War II spy thriller “Eye of the Needle.” It was that film that brought him to the attention of George Lucas and ultimately earned him the directing job on “Jedi.”

3. Lawrence Kasdan had worked for Lucas as the co-screenwriter of “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” before Lucas hired him a third time as his collaborator on the “Jedi” screenplay. Somewhere in there, Kasdan found time to write and direct his first solo feature, the 1981 thriller “Body Heat,” the movie that made Kathleen Turner a star.

4. Warwick Davis, then 11, made his debut as Ewok guide Wicket, after his grandmother learned of an open casting call for dwarfs in London. Davis was initially cast as an extra. Wicket was initially a role for Kenny Baker, who already had an established role as R2-D2 (he would inhabit the little droid in all six “Star Wars” features to date), but Baker fell ill, and Lucas gave his part to Davis. Baker ended up playing another Ewok in addition to R2-D2.

5. Lucas was on the set most of the time, often as a second-unit director (that is, shooting scenery, stunt sequences, and other footage not involving the primary cast). Marquand joked, “It is rather like trying to direct “King Lear” – with Shakespeare in the next room!”

6. Unlike the other principal “Star Wars” cast members, Harrison Ford hadn’t contracted to do a second sequel, and it wasn’t initially clear whether he’d return for “Jedi.”

7. Ford suggested that Han Solo be killed off early, through self-sacrifice. Kasdan thought that was a good idea, one that would increase suspense, but Lucas said no.

8. Also, Yoda wasn’t supposed to be in the movie, but Marquand insisted on a return to Dagobah so that Yoda could confirm that Darth Vader wasn’t just playing mind games with Luke Skywalker in “The Empire Strikes Back” and was really his father.

9. Other rejected script ideas: the climactic battle would have taken place on a planet of Wookiees instead of Ewoks (like Wookiees, but shorter!), and Obi-Wan Kenobi would have returned from his ghostly existence to corporeal form, rather than remaining a ghostly presence within the Force.

10. Actually filmed, but left on the cutting room floor, were a sequence of the heroes getting caught in a sandstorm as they tried to leave Tatooine, a scene among imperial officers on the Death Star during the final battle, and a scene of Darth Vader communicating with Luke via the Force before Luke enters Jabba’s palace. These scenes finally saw the light of day on the 2011 Blu-ray release.

11. While shooting on location, “Jedi” used the fake working title “Blue Harvest.” That was to keep plot spoilers from leaking, and to prevent local vendors from price-gouging the filmmakers.

12. To shoot the forest chase, Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown walked through the California’s Jebediah Smith Redwood State Park, shooting at less than one frame per second. Sped up to the standard 24 frames per second, the resulting footage made it look like speeding through the dense woods at 120 mph. (The speeders were superimposed later.)

13. Other scenes set on the forest moon of Endor were shot practically in Lucas’s backyard, in the redwood forest near Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California.

14. In late 1982, a teaser trailer and posters referred to the film as “Revenge of the Jedi.” (The poster also incorrectly depicted Luke with a red-beamed lightsaber and Darth Vader with a blue one, instead of the other way around.) After Lucas decided that “Revenge” was inappropriate, changed the title to “Return,” and sold the 6,800 remaindered posters to fans. Today, of course, they’re collector’s items.

15. “Jedi” ends with a sequence of Ewoks marking their victory over the empire by dancing and singing. The tune they sing is known as “Ewok Celebration.” “Star Wars” instrumental composer John Williams wrote the music. The “yub-yub” lyrics were written by his son, Joseph Williams, who was then the lead singer of Toto. A version of the song performed by electronic artist Meco hit No. 60 on the Billboard chart.

16. Lucas’s digital re-tinkering with “Return of the Jedi” in subsequent re-releases on home video altered some memorable scenes. There were more alien musicians playing in Jabba’s lair, the Sarlaac (the pit monster on Tatooine) acquired a beak, and the fall of the Empire was marked by a montage of various alien worlds celebrating. Most notoriously, the ghost of Anakin Skywalker was changed from the broken old man seen beneath Darth Vader’s helmet (played by Sebastian Shaw) to the young Hayden Christensen, who played the pre-Vader Anakin in Episodes II and III.

17. The film was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Art Direction, Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Sound. It won a special prize out of competition for its visual effects.

18. As with the first two “Star Wars” films, a radio version eventually aired on NPR. The 1986 radio play featured Anthony Daniels reprising his role as C-3PO, but other characters were played by new actors. Among them were John Lithgow as Yoda, Brock Peters (“To Kill a Mockingbird”) as Darth Vader, Ed Begley Jr. as Boba Fett, and Ed Asner as Jabba the Hutt.

19. “Jedi” cost $32.5 million to make, a large budget for a 1983 movie. It grossed $252.6 million domestically in its initial release, and another $57 million on subsequent releases. Its worldwide gross over the years totals $475.1 million.

20. Marquand followed up “Jedi” with the hit courtroom thriller “Jagged Edge” (1985), starring Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges. He made one more movie, 1987 drama “Hearts of Fire,” featuring a rare acting performance by Bob Dylan, but he suffered a stroke and heart attack, and died before it was released. He was 49.

21. Four months after “Jedi” came the release of Lawrence Kasdan’s second writing/directing effort, “The Big Chill,” a movie considered a cinema landmark despite its lack of Ewoks and space battles. He went on to make such celebrated movies as “The Accidental Tourist” and “The Bodyguard” (a script finally shot 20 years after he first tried to sell it). His most recent movie was 2012′s “Darling Companion,” with Kevin Kline and Diane Keaton.

22. Lucas oversaw two Ewok-themed spinoff projects, both of which debuted as made-for-TV movies. In 1984′s “The Ewok Adventure” (a.k.a. “Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure”), the fuzzy folk rescue a family of shipwrecked space travelers. In 1985′s “Ewoks: The Battle for Endor” (a.k.a. “Star Wars: Ewok Adventures – The Battle for Endor”) the orphaned girl from the previous movie joins the wee warriors in defending their moon against alien invaders. Both take place during the time between Episodes V and VI and are therefore technically “Jedi” prequels. Warwick Davis has said a third Ewok movie was planned but never filmed.

23. The Ewoks also got their own animated TV series, “Star Wars: Ewoks,” which aired 35 episodes from 1985 to ’86. It also took place during the interval between “Empire” and “Jedi.”

24. Lucas and Davis reteamed yet again for the Lucas-produced fantasy film “Willow” (1988), in which Davis had the role of the title hero and acted with his face visible for the first time. Davis would go on to star in the title role in the “Leprechaun” horror series and play cameos in the three “Star Wars” prequel films. Davis would spoof himself and his “Jedi”-derived fame in 2012 as the star of the Ricky Gervais-penned mockumentary series “Life’s Too Short.”

25. The title of 2005′s “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” was a wink to fans who recalled the original title of “Return of the Jedi.”

It’s all suits and seriousness for the latest promotional photo for Summit’s Ender’s Game. The image doesn’t reveal much about the plot – for those who haven’t read the book anyway – but it does showcase the movie’s two stars, Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield, who play Colonel Graff and the titular Ender Wiggin in the feature adaptation of the popular sci-fi novel. Directed by Gavin Hood, Ender’s Game is set in the future when man is at war with an alien race and the best and brightest children are being trained to fight in the battle.

In addition, the next photo depicts Ford’s Graff as the stern but not uncaring colonel, who’s keeping a close eye on Butterfield’s Ender, one of the gifted children recruited by the International Fleet to prepare for the approaching war. Training includes getting suited up and sent into a zero-gravity Battle Room where the kids zap (or technically freeze) one another with flash guns.

At Conservation International’s (CI) 16th annual New York City Gala Dinner, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton participated in a lively, substantive conversation with CI Vice Chairman Harrison Ford about international conservation issues, global development and the direct connections between nature, security and economic and human well-being.

“I was there for days,” Ford said of waiting for Clinton at her far-flung hotel. “He had moss growing on his hair,” Clinton joked.

The pair stood in front of a wall of moss last night, on the stage of the Plaza hotel ballroom for Conservation International’s 16th annual New York dinner.

Ford, a board member of the Washington-based organization for more than 20 years, talked with Clinton for 45 minutes. Topics covered: ocean health in the South Pacific and the Arctic, potential threats of damming the Mekong River and African elephants.

“Poaching animals is a huge, international, criminal enterprise,” Clinton said. “It is no longer taking a tusk to the nearest market. It’s carried out by highly armed, vicious bands who come in helicopters wearing night goggles.”

Ford interviewed Clinton on challenges ranging from climate change to poaching as part of Conservation International’s annual New York Gala Dinner.

“We are in a race against time,” former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned. “We still live in a state of denial. We see it, we experience it, but we have a great deal of difficulty in summoning the political will … to address it.”

Clinton focused specifically on small Pacific Island nations whose existences, she said, “are truly at stake.”

“You want a player who doesn’t have the guts to fight back?”
“No, I want a player who has the guts NOT to fight back!”

That was a scene from “42” with actors Chadwick Boseman (Jackie Robinson) and Harrison Ford (Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey). These character traits they discussed are what made Robinson the “right” player to break the color line in Major League Baseball.

Now that the story is on the silver screen, Linda Paige, the daughter of the late Hall of Famer Satchel Paige, says she had a sense of completeness when she attended the red carpet preview in Kansas City.

“I’m absolutely honored to be here and to know men of that caliber and to hear about them,” says Paige. “Now, to see it, it’s truly, truly amazing. It puts all the pieces together that you hear as a kid growing up.”

As actor Chadwick Boseman walked the red carpet, fans shouted “Chadwick! Chadwick!”

From the response of the fans at the event, Boseman has thrust himself into the spotlight as an actor. And he’s playing the most visible role of his career yet as Jackie Robinson. Sportswriter Joe Posnanski says it’s weighted with responsibility.

“For young people especially, Chadwick Boseman is Jackie Robinson,” says Posnanski. “The portrayal that he brings to the movie is a portrayal that people remember as Jackie Robinson. So it’s a huge responsibility, but also what a wonderful privilege to play such a great American character. I know that he embraced that.”

Andre Holland plays Wendell Smith, the African-American sportswriter who covered the Negro Leagues. Holland, who’s based in New York, researched Smith at the Baseball Hall of Fame library in Cooperstown.

“I went there and actually pulled from the library and got all of his papers,” says Holland. “There’s an enormous collection of all his writing and it was really cool to see.”

Bobby Bragan, the Dodgers catcher at the time Robinson broke into the big leagues is played by Derek Phillips. From his experience making the film, Phillips says he was anxious to check out the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City, where the Jackie Robinson story is portrayed from his days with the Kansas City Monarchs.

“The Jackie Robinson story is a story of stick-to-it-tiveness, perseverance, of determination in midst of complete and total turmoil,” says Bragan.

With the nationwide release of “42”, Bob Kendrick, the president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, believes the impact of the movie on its actors and production team will be beneficial for the museum down the road.

“I don’t think you can be part of something as magnanimous as this is and just say, ‘I’m going to walk away from it.’ And that’s it,” says Kendrick. “I think this will be a part of you forever. I think all of those guys who are involved in this film will remember this forever. And so will we.”

In 1947, the year that Jackie Robinson broke into the big leagues, the Brooklyn Dodgers reached the World Series. Forty-one years after his death, the movie about Robinson’s career has also made Kansas City a winner.

The red carpet preview of ’42′ was a benefit; the proceeds are going to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the Kansas City Sports Commission.

This story was produced for KC Currents

Actor Harrison Ford, as the vice chair of non-profit Conservation International (CI), participated in a special session talk with CI CEO Peter Seligmann and moderated by Fortune managing editor Andy Serwer.

Which was the topic?
The two environmentalists referred to what CI calls the “Direct Connection” between international conservation and America’s economic and national security interests.

For example, Ford explained, the U.S. and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are currently addressing the threat from Somali pirates attacking ships in the Horn of Africa. Many of the aggressors turned to piracy because the local fisheries collapsed, Ford said. Conservation International wants to help leaders prevent crises like that one by working with leadership in countries to assign economic weight to resources they might not have previously considered, including fisheries or, say, a population of pollinators. The group also argues that preserving them is a matter of national security.

This is part of the conference transcript, you can read the entire one here

For instance, what’s happening with the Somali pirates, you can look at that and recognize that it’s the collapse of the fisheries, the sustainable fishing, that men equipped with boats had no other options but to be involved in piracy, and that’s cost us and the rest of our NATO partners $2 billion to try and redress. That’s the national security connection to an environment issue, conservation issue.

If you remember, last year Conservation International launched a spot in where Harrison Ford explained a little bit more about the “Direct Connection”. Here is the clip.

Ford also explained these kind of issues cannot make great movies, because the show business is merely for entertainment.

Exclusive Coverage
Once again, the TreeLiving.com team was lucky enough to assist to the conference and hear Harrison Ford’s points on green issues and national security. I expect to share with you their experience review soon, meanwhile you can check some highlights of the event in their album

For the majority of his career, Harrison Ford has played heroes, from Han Solo to Jack Ryan to Indiana Jones. The audience has loved watching Ford save the day. When we spoke to Ford and asked about how decades of fans look at him as one of the biggest heroes that the big screen has ever seen, Ford told us he doesn’t see these iconic characters as heroes, and that there is more substance to them. Maybe a bastard, but not a hero, said once.
Branch Rickey III gives approval of “42,” particularly Harrison Ford’s portrayal of his grandfather

“I’m dazzled by the obvious level of commitment that Harrison Ford had to go to to pull off this transformation from Han Solo, Indiana Jones to Branch Rickey, that’s a pretty long street,” Rickey said. “I have two cousins, both of whom were close to my grandfather, who both said only twice in the movie did Harrison Ford surface. The rest of the time, for them, he was their grandfather, which is a stunning thing.”
