According to Universal, the Blu-ray combo pack release will include and extended edition of the Jon Favreau-directed sci-fi western while the DVD will have the theatrical version. As far as we can tell, the extended edition includes roughly 17 minutes of extra footage. As for Bonus Features, here’s the list:
(Space.com) Hollywood seems to have caught alien fever.
In the past few months, a slew of big-budget alien movies has hit theaters, from kiddie flicks (“Mars Needs Moms”) to comedies (“Paul”) to high-octane action films (“Battle: Los Angeles,” “Green Lantern” and the just-released “Cowboys & Aliens,” among others). And many more such movies are on the way, both this year and next.
Cowboys & Aliens has beat out The Smurfs for box-office supremacy with a take of $36.4 million. The Smurfs came in second place with a gross of $35.6 million. Captain America came in third place with a gross of $25.5 million.
Last night Harrison Ford stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where the ABC late night host reunited Han Solo with his old Millennium Falcon co-pilot Chewbacca. The episode was guest directed by Jon Favreau.
Jon Favreau is trying to reinvent the publicity machine. He’s seen how it’s been done in the past and is clearly trying to come up with new ways to market his movies to fans. With Cowboys & Aliens, it looks like he’s getting some leeway to control that publicity. At WonderCon, he pledged that only the folks in the room would get a sneak peek at the aliens and further images of the creatures wouldn’t be spoiled in the trailers, TV spots, and other press materials. He’s also planning to hold the film’s world premiere at this year’s Comic-Con.
In addition to the teaser poster and trailer for Cowboys & Aliens , Universal has also released ten new images from the film, which stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde. Hit the jump to check out all of the new high-resolution images. Cowboys & Aliens opens July 29, 2011.
