Blade Runner Tops Sci Fi Movies Poll

Jan 25, 08 Blade Runner Tops Sci Fi Movies Poll

Here we are at the end of our count down and it’s Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner that tops our poll, it’s also a second appearance for actor Harrison Ford. Loosely based on Philip K.Dick’s short story, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and was released in 1982. The story follows policeman Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) who is hunting four cloned humanoids, known as replicants. Replicants are illegal and Deckard, a blade runner, has been brought out of retirement to catch them as he is a specialist in exterminating them. Whilst on the surface being an action movie it also looks into themes of religion, morals and the human race’s mastery of genetic engineering. Blade Runner is also filled with nods to the film noir genre with ideas of the femme fatal and the questionable moral outlook of the movie’s hero running through it.
